We’ve spent a lot of time lately talking about what we want to do with our little farm. Should we get livestock? Should we expand our growing ability? What benefits us the most? After months of talking and a lot of planning, we are now moving forward with implementation.

The first implementation is the addition of pigs. We have made all of the necessary decisions like where they will live, what we will feed them, and what kind to get. What we are still debating is if we should get breeders (2 mamma’s and 1 pappa) so that we always have a steady source of meat or if we should get a couple of feeders. At the moment we are thinking we’ll get a couple of feeders and our breeding stock. In the coming weeks we’ll be putting up the fencing and building shelters for them.

Next and relatively close to the same time as we get the pigs we’ll be adding a donkey. The donkey will serve as a livestock guardian.

Later this year we’ll add goats, cows, and of course more chickens.

We are converting the garden into mostly all raised beds. We’ll be growing a lot of herbs for teas, soaps, and candles. There will also be more trees added to our orchard.

Stay tuned for more updates from around the farm.
